You. How often have you put yourself first? Have been working harder and burning out in ways you may never imagined? Self-care, health, and wellness are critical, and we want to help you reach your potential with each. Tuesday, November 15, 2022, you're invited to attend the Y’s Fitness + Wellness Expo and focus purely on you.

This expo provides the time and ability to focus inward, on your physical, mental, and emotional self. The programs and sessions are designed to bring positive awareness to help you understand the concepts and importance of self-care, mental health, wellness, nutrition, physical wellness, and connections to the community.

Explore each of the Fitness + Wellness Expo sessions taking place in our region and at your local Y, You’re welcome to attend as many as you see fit. At each one we are hosting giveaways for prizes, including the opportunity to win a free 3-month free membership at the YMCA. We are waiving guest fees for the day so the Y is free for all. We're also waiving our join fees for anyone who may want to join the day of the expo.

Step away from your home office and allow yourself to embrace coaches, trainers, nutritionists, and experts who address the issues you face and provider resources to renew and revive the life you want to live. As you read through classes and demonstrations taking place at each of our community centers, please access these group exercise class descriptions to help you familiarize yourself with each group class option.

 

Fitness + Wellness Expo Events


Bremerton Family YMCA

November 15 | 5-7pm

Kicking off at Bremerton Family Y, we are hosting Dance Beats in the main gym and then focusing on group exercise and wellness options for you to explore different formats and learn which form of movement is ideal for your body, mind, and spirit. Try out conditioning through Pilates, yoga, and barre, or push yourself and your cardio in cycling or The Edge.

Ready for strength and to eliminate some gymtimidation? Try the 101s of deadlifting and kettlebells so you can push your limits in the weight room for a new personal record. There will also be an opportunity for you to find your center in a Yoga Nidra workshop for pure, blissful relaxation.

If you're in need of guidance for a pregnant body, Katie Rains will be in attendance. We’re also hosting community-based fitness and wellness providers who focus on massage, acupuncture, healthcare, and more.


Gordon Family YMCA

November 15 | 10am-2pm

Visit the second floor at Gordon to meet with experts, coaches, and community health resources. You can meet with dental health professionals from Molen Orthodontics, check in with the healthcare professionals from our partners at MultiCare, or complete a fall-risk assessment with the watchful eyes of experts at Pacific Lutheran University.

New parents are invited to meet with Meghann Chenney about post-natal mental health care. Chenney is a LMFTA who can help with self-identity work, discovering or reclaiming values, setting boundaries, learning how to both accept emotions and take action, and learning to "come home" to yourself.

Know more about your body's numbers through technology and a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). BIA is completed through a small handheld device that measures body fat percentage and gives BMI readings. You can also visit one of several training demonstrations we’ll be running at the expo! Demos include how to set up a bike, how to play pickleball, the safe and recommended methods to include in deadlifting, and an overview on how to use our effective stretching cage.

Don't forget to wear your workout gear so you can meet us for an express group class as we’ll have two running for you to explore:

Haselwood Family YMCA

November 15 | 3-7pm

Explore our entire center in Silverdale as our training and demonstrations are spread throughout different portions of our facility. Get your technical sweat on early by learning more about TRX and meditation practices in 101 training courses taking place in the late afternoon and into the evening. Parents to be invited to stop into the prenatal workshop taking place to help prepare for your newest arrival.

Lakewood Family YMCA

November 15 | 4-6pm

Visit our main gym, which will be equally divided between group fitness classes on one side and wellness experts on the other.

The team at Smile Solutions dental clinic will be on hand to help you maintain your brightest grin. You can also meet with the Foot and Ankle Clinic team who will be offering wellness tips and information to keep you up and moving. Vital Chiropractor is providing free scans at the expo, and Airrosti chiropractic will be on hand for additional tips and tools leading up to an on-site workshop.

Looking to lose weight? Meet with us and we can help analyze your body fat and set you up in the YMCA Weight Loss Program. The 12-week program is designed to help you be the healthier, stronger, and more energetic version of yourself by making small, modest changes to your daily behaviors, and form sustainable habits.

If you’re a soon-to-be parent or have a newborn at home, we will have a doula and a pre- and post-natal yoga instructor to help guide you through your body’s transition with grace and understanding.

Bring your sneakers so you can connect with our trainers and staff during one of our many group classes in a shorter 20-minute format so you have the time (and energy!) to try more than one.

Are you a morning or evening person? At Mel Korum YMCA you can pick the time that’s best for you to visit the Fitness + Wellness Expo.

In the morning session we are offering classes that cover nutrition, prenatal fitness, low-impact cardio, cycling, emotional and creative development and more. Bring your coffee or water and learn more from our team about how we can best support you.

Morgan Family YMCA

Visit the famous "Pearl Street Y" and take a tour of our main gym with interactive vendors and partners in place to provide you with tools and guidance alongside staggered 101 training sessions going on for a length of 30 minutes each. Try a few classes and open yourself up to the different benefits that each movement offers.

At 5:30pm, our training sessions wrap up and Edge Games will commence on the functional training half of the gym where you can participate in one or multiple boot camp games meant to elevate your heart rate and test your stamina. At 6:15pm the Edge Games will end, and the curtain will drop in the gym for a high-energy COMMIT dance party uniting all attendees as we boogie into the night. Ooo-oooo!

For recent or new-to-be parents, there is a midwifery expert on hand who is holding 1:1 meetings, providing resources, and offering a pre- and post-natal demonstration from 5-5:30pm.

Throughout the Fitness + Wellness Expo at Morgan Family YMCA you can meet with experts in massage therapy, chiropractic care, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. DEXA scans will be available for a $50 cost to members, and our team is on hand to help guide you towards your goals whether that be weight loss, coaching, or another training program you’re interested in trying. For nutrition, Emerald City Smoothie and Chef at Heart meal prep services can help you start creating better daily choices in your food choices and how you fuel your body.

Yoga At Tom Taylor Family YMCA

Tacoma Center YMCA

November 15 | 10am-12pm

Visit the Tacoma Center YMCA’s gym downtown to take care of you physical self and access a broader selection of emotional and mental health options. Meet with experts in fitness, nutrition, weight loss, and wellness.

Be sure to come in your workout gear so that you can spend time on your physical well-being through one of our planned express classes. Each class runs at a shorter time so that you can try more than one form of exercise during your visit, such as cycling, core strength, or yoga.

We want to see you lift! Step into the lifestyle of a weightlifter and learn how to properly deadlift in a dedicated training session. You’ll walk away feeling more confident in the weight room and with the knowledge that there's a community that supports you.

Therapy often taps into free-form art expressions to encourage people to talk about the images and to begin to look to themselves for meaning and insight. Set aside time to join in art therapy with Kaitlin Lloyd and you’ll help to increase your self-awareness and self-worth while you decrease stress and anxiety.

Did you know gardening is proven to help fight disease and reduce stress? Get your hands dirty and clear your mind with master gardener and local perennial expert, Pamela Draper. You’realso  invited to stop and take a breath with Sarahlynn Etta as she leads meditation and mindfulness.

You can also explore tapping or EFT with Jennifer Vasquez who has 1,900 hours as an EFT Practitioner, life coach, VA resident in counseling, academic advisor, & peer group facilitation. EFT stands for emotional freedom technique (EFT) and is a method to reduce anxiety, stress, PTSD, and depression. Afterwards, you can relax with the soothing touch of a professional massage therapist.


Tom Taylor Family YMCA

November 15 | 4-7pm

In Gig Harbor, the Fitness + Wellness Expo is taking place in our main gym, and your visit is full of opportunities to connect with wellness-oriented community providers. For natural physical therapy options, we’ll have Harbor Life Chiropractic, Olympic Sport and Spine, Harbor Health and Apothecary and DoTerra Essential Oils available to meet and support you.

Need dedicated health support? Our partners at MultiCare and Mary Bridge are available to guide you, as well as the Pulse Heart Institute. For nutrition, team members from Grand Nutrition are available help you decipher your diet as you enjoy Yakult samples. Never heard of Yakult? University YMCA Student Center

November 15 | 6-8pm

Spend time with us and next to the University of Washington-Tacoma campus for physical self and access a variety of emotional and mental health options. Meet with experts in fitness, nutrition, weight loss, and wellness that meet your needs now or in the future.

Lace-up your training shoes and start your time at the event by spending time on your physical well-being through one of our planned express classes. Each class runs at a shorter time so that you can try more than one form of exercise during your visit, such as tai chi, barre, and core express classes.

Deadlifting is known as one of the “big three” exercises for powerlifters which includes squats, bench press, and the deadlift. We will show you how to do it properly and reduce risk of injury in a dedicated training session. You’ll walk away feeling more confident in the weight room and with the knowledge that there's a community that supports you.

Gardening is proven to help fight disease and reduce stress. Make time to meet with master gardener and local perennial expert, Pamela Draper, who will show you how you can best garden in your home or in the community.
