MJ and his mother Lakesha have encountered a lot of "firsts" this year. Moving to Washington and starting a new school for the first time posed a challenge to MJ and his mother with a military career. As a child with Cerebral Palsy, finding a sense of belonging in a team setting was a priority. At the beginning of the school year, MJ found a home with the Y.
"My favorite thing about coming to the Y is that I get to participate in the games just like other kids, I get to become part of a team," says MJ.
Being part of a team, perhaps for the first time, has given MJ a second home with the YMCA. He gets to interact just like everyone else and has lots of opportunities to participate in physical activities. YMCA Child Care supports youth physically, socially and academically to develop leaders of tomorrow, today.
