For more than 30 years, Michael lived an almost entirely sedentary lifestyle. "I didn't do anything to proactively establish any kind of fitness goals," Michael recalls. "My excuse was 'I'm just not a fit person and there's nothing I can do about that!'" Little did he know how wrong he was about himself.
He began his Y journey by attending circuit class off-and-on at the Mel Korum Family YMCA, but the drive was just far enough from his home to give him another excuse to avoid committing to an active lifestyle. When the Gordon Family YMCA opened, Michael couldn't make excuses anymore. He took a leap back into his health journey by attending a 5am circuit class three days a week.
"At first, I felt like I was going to die! My initial class was brutal," said Michael, "but I survived and I came back again and again." He began to realize that he craved coming to class and working hard to achieve fitness goals that he thought he could never set.
With new energy and confidence in himself, Michael has taken up running and kickboxing in addition to regularly attending early morning circuit class. "Life is good and I am finally living it to the fullest!"
