Maleek and Danavian

Different life experiences brought foster brothers Maleek and Danavian under the same roof. As soon as they were placed in the foster home, their foster father signed them up at the Y, which the Y provides to foster children at no cost, and they have been involved ever since.

After years of participating in Y programs, both Maleek and Danavian are finding leadership opportunities as they get older. Maleek spends time connecting with staff mentors, and has volunteered to coach youth sports. Danavian became a Counselor in Training, working with campers during the summer.

“Helping with the kids makes me feel like an adult,” said Danavian. “I have responsibility now. Without the Y, I’d probably just be sitting at home bored or out doing things I shouldn’t be doing.”

Both Maleek and Danavian have made lasting friendships at the Y, giving them a sense of belonging and purpose.
