Larry always knew that heart disease ran in his family. His grandfather died of a heart condition when his mother was only 13, but he never realized how this family history could affect him until he had a stroke in 2014. He got lucky - it was a mild stroke, but he needed to change his habits and start focusing on his health.
?I knew I didn?t want to have another one,? Larry said. His girlfriend at the time encouraged him to join the Y. Larry, who had never set foot in a gym in his life, decided that it was worth a shot. So, he became a member of the Lakewood Family YMCA and made a FitPath appointment. He graduated from the FitPath program and went on to compete in monthly ActivTrax challenges and join the weekly pickleball game.
Still, he credits his FitPath coaches for getting him started and helping him form a regular habit.
?Now, I?m here 5 days a week,? Larry said, smiling. ?I hate it when I miss it.?
