A family history of diabetes and the desire to get back into a healthy routine drove Jessica to the Y, where she found the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program.

"I felt like this program was a great way to not only get back in shape, but also learn healthier living habits to prevent diabetes," said Jessica.

YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program provides a supportive environment where participants work together in a small group to learn how to eat healthy and increase their physical activity to reduce their risk for developing diabetes.

Getting back in shape was a difficult task for Jessica. But after a year, she lost 20 percent of her body weight and has been able to maintain that loss with healthy eating and regular exercise.

"Every change I've made creates a new normal, allowing me to build on a healthier normal," said Jessica. "Best of all, I'm teaching my children what it looks like to eat healthier and live an active lifestyle."
