Mel Korum Family YMCA
“This is where we are going to put our heart and energy. This is our stake in the ground. This is a piece of our community that we hope to be a part of for many years,” says Jana Brost.
Jana and her family joined the Y seven years ago. As members of the Puyallup community and local business owners, Jana and her husband, Emmett, felt that it was important for them to be grounded in the community. They found their stake in the ground at the Mel Korum Family YMCA.
After getting connected to the Y, Jana and her family were able to find something for everyone in their family to enjoy. While their son is taking swim lessons, their daughter is getting ready to head to gymnastics or jumping in the pool as well! When their classes finish, Jana and Emmett head upstairs for a date night on the track.
"Not very many places can say that they cater to so many different groups, and do it well,” Jana says.
The Brosts wanted to share what they had found at the Y with other families who might not have the resources to afford a membership, so they started donating to the Annual Campaign to help support financial assistance programs.
“We just want to give people an opportunity to walk into the YMCA, regardless of their situation.”
