Jackie 's smile is her trademark as she helps lead the kickboxing class. It's always there. But it wasn't always that easy. When she first became a Y member in January 2012, she could barely make it through the whole class despite 24 years of experience in jazz-based group exercise. At the time she joined - and at a weight she can't even recall being - Jackie says she about died in that first class.
But she fell in love with the class, and from there she was hooked. She completed an introductory fitness plan through the Y's FitPath program and now participates in 13 or more group exercise classes each week. Jackie has lost more than 90 pounds and says she feels better and looks forward to working out. When she isn't able to come to the Y she says she misses the friends she's met and the YMCA staff, whom she says have been very supportive in her fitness journey.
"I've met so many awesome people, friends, and instructors here," she says. "I can't imagine my life without the Y."
