Tai Chi is the gentle way to eliminate stress. Originally a technique for self-defense, it has evolved into a graceful form of movement that is sometimes called meditation in motion. Practitioners note improved mood, lessened joint pain, improved sleep, lower blood pressure and a bevy of other benefits that will carry over into your day-to-day.

Vinyasa is an approach to yoga in which you move from one pose directly into the next, often called a flow. This transition coordinates with your breathing and takes place specifically as you exhale or inhale. It also gives you the feeling that your breath is moving your body – a powerful force! Vinyasa improves energy levels, builds endurance, strength, stability, and balance, as well as lowers stress and anxiety.

Outdoor Fitness | Yin and Yoga Nidra

When: July 14 | 7-8:15pm

Location: Lakewood Family Y

Ages: 8+, youth under 12 must be accompanied by an adult

Yin yoga consists of stretching postures. Postures are restful and held for long periods of time, up to 4 minutes. The long, passive holds activate the parasympathetic nervous system (our rest and digest system), and work to soften and stretch our deepest layers of tissue, the fascia. It's a wonderful break from any fast-paced lifestyle. Meanwhile Nidra means “conscious sleep,” during which time you will lay on your back and be guided through a methodical relaxation series. During this time you’ll be invited to give yourself a positive affirmation or suggestion to meditate on throughout the exercise. Join and enjoy the restoration process of Yin and Nidra.
