Meet Tina! She attended a workshop last night hosted by our Mission Integration Team learning about loving yourself and each other. While she is currently homeless, Tina loves that the Y is safe place for her to learn, grow and thrive. The entire group was smiling ear to ear as they created Valentine's together.

"Be completely humble and gentle, be patient; bearing one another in love. "-Ephesians 4:2

February is American Heart Month. Heart disease and stroke are the first and fifth leading causes of death among adults in the United States. Physical activity can help prevent heart disease and stroke. To improve overall cardiovascular health, the American Heart Association recommends that adults engage in moderate exercise 30 minutes a day, five times a week.

Our Noon Boot Camp class celebrated their instructor DC as he and his wife get ready to welcome the newest member to the Tacoma Center YMCA Boot Camp family into the world soon!

Over 20 people came out to our Foam Roller Workshop this weekend to learn how to accurately and safely use these devices to warm up or cool down muscles groups. Look for more interest-based workshops at Tacoma Center YMCA in the future!

Nearly 250 children and adults came out to participate in and support the 2016 Regional Special Olympics Basketball Tournament hosted at Tacoma Center YMCA today! A huge THANK YOU to everyone for your support and cooperation. We were extremely honored to be part of this special event to continue supporting such worthy organizations in our community together.

In order to better serve our community, the main gym and track will be closed this Saturday, February 6 from 7am-8pm for a regional Special Olympics event. However, the cardio equipment surrounding the gym will be available for members to use. Additional parking is available across the street in the Franciscan parking garage to accommodate additional guests. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding on this matter, as we are honored to host the Special Olympics in our branch! Contact Amanda Paschall at apaschall@ymcapck.org for more information.

We have an updated mobile app waiting for you beginning Monday, February 1! With our new and improved app, you can quickly navigate class schedules, add recurring classes to your calendar, view branch status, or simply use to scan into the facility, just to name a few. To download, go to Apple iTunes store of the Google Play store and search YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties and select download.

Today our SOTA kids surprised Willie and our team with a poster of appreciation towards the Y for allowing them to utilize the facility during their physical activity hour. At the Y, one of our three core areas of focus is youth development, and we are honored we get to share part in their development as young people. Thank you to our supporters and partners for making this vision possible because of our Annual Campaign. You make us better!

Today is the last day to take advantage of our $0 joining fees! Come by Tacoma Center Y to sign up until 9:45pm or register online at ymcapkc.org/start to skip the lines. See you soon!

Before he was awarded the Nobel Peace prize. Before he spoke the words, "I have a dream." Before he was an ordained minister. He was just another kid at the Y. Together, we are grateful for the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We honor him Monday and will continue to operate under normal business hours.
