Develop Agility, Balance, and Hand-Eye Coordination.

Through our flag football league, kids learn the fundamentals and improve their agility, coordination, balance, and endurance in a team-oriented sport. Participants practice their footwork, passing, catching, and hand-eye coordination, as well as concepts of offense, defense, cooperation, and teamwork. Youth flag football teams participate in competitive games during the season. Games are officiated by YMCA referees.

Increase Self Confidence and Connect to Your Body

When kids step onto a field they transform into athletes and form new identities that help them step outside of themselves and forge new concepts about who they are and can be. With regular activity they feel more connected to their bodies, get rid of any stress on the field, and gain greater confidence in themselves as well as one another. Flag football helps young people develop these important skills alongside helping them play to their strengths, and how to ask for help when they need it.

Focusing in on Problem Solving and Communication

Flag football players are engaging in a physical version of chess. It requires them to pay close attention to the game and think strategically about how to outmaneuver their opponents, as well as make plays to penetrate a defensive line. They have to also react quickly and use their problem-solving skills to make smart decisions on the spot. Youth will work together on offense and defense throughout practices and games to enhance their communication through play calling, strategy and working as a team.
