Practice Huddle at YMCA Youth Basketball League

Volunteering to coach at the Y is a simple and fun way to impact your community by ensuring each team has a dedicated and consistent leader this season. As a volunteer coach, you will play an invaluable role in creating a foundational experience for the players in our youth sports programs.

You don’t need to know the ins and outs of every sport to be a coach. Youth sports are all about teaching life skills like teamwork, building friendships, healthy competition, and having fun through physical activity.

While you are considering making this jump, here’s what you can expect and gain when you become a part of our team:

When you become a volunteer coach, you will have the youth sports director's guidance and support throughout the season. You will be with your team for an exhilarating 8 weeks filled with triumphs, laughter, and sweat. There will also be an opportunity to attend a coach’s meeting to learn tips and tricks before the season starts. We provide resources such as sports-specific handbooks, a rule book, and practice plans to help build your practices each week.

Time Commitment:

  • 1 hour on a weekday and time of your choice for practices
  • 1 hour on Fridays or Saturdays for game days, depending on the center

Responsibilities*:

  • Communicate with parents and guardians
  • Run a safe, fun, and engaging practice
  • Be a positive mentor and role model for youth in our community
