YMCA Teen Leadership Programs
The Y is a cause-driven organization focused on three key areas: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We believe a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.
The YMCA provides opportunities for all teens to get involved in programs that build a sense of self-worth.
Teen programs at the YMCA give youth a positive adult role model, purpose and passion life, and tools for academic success. Programs focus on the spiritual, mental, social and physical health of teens.

What is YLD Club?
With something for everyone, YLD Club is a weekly leadership club that provides a variety of experiences for teens in grades 7-12.
Leadership skills are cultivated in teens by building relationships and developing those skills in a fun, safe, open and supportive environment.
By participating in YLD Club, our goal is that you will experience a sense of belonging, hope and purpose as well as an increase in cultural competences and character development skills.
What is Youth and Government?
Celebrating its 73rd year in Washington state, this non-partisan eight-month program is designed to give teens a "hands-on" experience running a model state legislature. Youth and Government provides teens the opportunity to become civically engaged in an environment that is not only educational but exciting and fun!
Teens may run for elected positions as state officers, take on the role of a legislator, work as a reporter, or push to pass laws as a lobbyist. Investigate, research, write bills, debate important issues facing our state/nation, and pass mock laws. Learn and practice leadership skills, meet state and local officials and become familiar with state government in a fun and exciting way!
The program starts early Fall 2019 with weekly or every other week meetings (depending on the delegation) and culminates with the 73rd YMCA Youth Legislature early May 2020 at our state capitol in Olympia.

The goal of PRC is to provide a safe, supportive environment for teens to explore diverse topics with their peers. Topics can range from identifying values, building communication skills, to relationships and making choices. Many former participants and advisors have called PRC a life changing event.
If you are a self-motivated, positive teen in grades 8-12 then we want you as a Kids Night Out (KNO) Teen Leader.
From September through June, KNO is a giant sleepover once a month for youth ages 6 to 10 at the Morgan, Lakewood and Mel Korum Family YMCAs. KNO is also a fundraiser for teens who are registered and an active participant in any of these Teen Leadership Development programs.
Your role as a group leader, unit leader or support staff is to help bring each KNO alive while creating a safe environment for the youth you work with. Expectations are high for our leaders to ensure they and the youth they serve are having the best experience possible.
Teens gain experience working with children and peers while earning "credit" that can be applied toward Teen Leadership Development program fees. Training and a specific KNO Teen Leader application is required.

Come join other young teen leaders from our Y and participate in this once in a lifetime, unique and impactful cultural experience. This opportunity allows us to work alongside the Sioux YMCA, located in Dupree, South Dakota.
The Sioux Y brings fun and healthy activities to youth living in the isolated communities across the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Reservation. It is a reflection of the Y’s commitment to provide all youth on the reservation with access to positive developmental activities and role models. Our visit is a great “first step” toward developing lasting relationships and learning about the Lakota people, their culture, history and their story.
