Research-Based Programming

Pedaling for Parkinson’s ™ is informed by research demonstrating that consistent, high- cadence cycling can support the reduction of Parkinson’s Symptoms.

Research has shown that individuals living with Parkinson’s disease who cycle regularly can reduce their symptoms by 35%.

Reaching Maximum Benefits

Participants are encouraged to follow these guidelines:

Frequency

Aim to cycle three times a week.

Session Length

Cycle for at least 60 minutes each session.

Get Your Heart Pumping

Achieve 75+ rotations per minute (rpm), which can be achieved during steady-state riding or interval training.

Supporting Your Unique Needs

P4P classes are modifiable to various ability levels and stages of Parkinson’s. YMCA instructors are supportive in creating class plans that meet the unique needs of the Parkinson’s rider community.

Get Started with Pedaling for Parkinson’s

Pedaling for Parkinson’s is currently offered at the Pearl Street Family YMCA on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:30am to 12:30pm and is free to YMCA members.
