A workout can be time to focus on yourself, and the moments afterward deserve attention too. Soon, members at the Pearl Street Family YMCA will have new ways to make recovery part of their visits, with plans to introduce HydroMassage and RedZone Redlight and Infrared Sauna units this winter.
The expansion will bring two HydroMassage chairs and one red light unit to the upstairs landing of the West Building. Installation is targeted for mid-December, with the goal of having the equipment ready for members in January.
A Personalized HydroMessage Experience
HydroMassage uses warm, pressurized water jets to provide a massage while you remain fully clothed and dry. Members can adjust the pressure and speed to personalize the experience, whether they want to unwind after a workout or ease into their visit.
Each session offers up to 10 minutes to settle in and enjoy a break.
The Science Behind RedZone Saunas
The RedZone Redlight and Infrared Sauna combines infrared sauna heat with red and near-infrared LED light panels in one recovery experience.
Unlike a traditional sauna that heats the air around you, an infrared sauna uses light waves to warm your body directly. Infrared energy penetrates the skin and gently raises tissue temperature, which can help improve circulation and relax muscles while operating at lower temperatures than conventional saunas. This creates a different type of sauna experience that many people find more comfortable while still delivering the relaxing warmth people expect from a sauna.
These wavelengths of light can pass through the outer layers of the skin and interact with cells beneath the surface. Red light therapy is often used in wellness and recovery spaces as part of recovery routines.
By offering infrared heat with targeted red-light exposure in a single session, the RedZone creates a recovery experience designed to help members relax, recharge, and support their wellness routine.
Pearl Street will become the second YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties location with this option, joining the Gordon Family YMCA where the equipment had become a popular part of members' routines.
Making Recovery Part of Your Visit
Whether you want a quiet pause after strength training or time to decompress before heading home, the new equipment will make it easier to include recovery in your regular visits.
The Y's recovery add-on is currently $15 per month in addition to membership, with sessions of up to 10 minutes on each piece of equipment. No appointment is needed, and members can sign up at their center's membership desk.
Watch for Pearl Street's opening details as installation approached. In the meantime, explore recovery at the Y to learn about available amenities and participating centers.
