Our Counselors in Training (CIT) program gives teens ages 13-17 their first real leadership experience and a summer that means something.

What to Expect

Ages: 13-17

 

How to Apply:

  • Register to Become a CIT: Open through May 30. Registered CITs will receive an email with next steps.
  • Complete Trainings: 4 courses and 1 day of Staff Training Week are required before camp starts, including:
    • Child Abuse Prevention
    • Day Camp 101
    • Foundations of Volunteerism
    • Group Management
    • Staff Training Week: Attend a portion of one training day alongside Camp Counselors
  • CIT Selection: Registered CITs who successfully complete the trainings will be assigned a Y Camp role as a CIT at the discretion of the Y Camp Director.

CIT Program Levels

  • Start Here - CIT 1: The entry point to leadership. CIT 1 requires a minimum commitment of 2 weeks and mandatory pre-summer training. No experience necessary.
  • Go Further - CIT 2: For teens ready for more, CIT 2 involves more leadership responsibilities, a formal application process, and a minimum commitment of 4 weeks. One year of CIT experience is required.

A Day in the Life of a CIT

Real responsibilities. Real fun.
  • Start the morning with your director and fellow CITs to set the tone for the day.
  • Welcome campers and help them settle into their groups.
  • Lead games and activities that get everyone moving and connected.
  • Support a “camptivity” and add your own creativity.
  • Close out the day helping with pickup and celebrating what you helped build.
