Join us for the most in-depth behind-the-scenes look at the new Pearl Street Family YMCA yet! Jared Johnson, executive director, talks about the new welcome center, aquatics center, weight room, and rock wall sponsored by the Liz Rocks Foundation. If you haven't walked or driven by the construction site, we encourage you to do so to see how the new building is taking shape.
Front Entrance
The entrance to the new Pearl Street Family YMCA is taking shape. The structural steel is nearing completion and soon the entrance will be clad in metal wall panels and glass.
Aquatics Center
Scaffolding is set up in the Aquatics Center to complete painting of the ceiling. At the base of the scaffolding, you can see some of the new Aquatics Center features, including the splash pad and lazy river. Once all of the painting is completed, the scaffolding will be moved upstairs to complete the painting of the strength training area ceiling. As the Aquatics Center is enclosed, the contractor will then begin installing the pool surfacing material.
Strength Training Area
The majority of the second floor in Phase 1 will be dedicated to strength training. The new strength training area will be larger and feature all-new equipment, and will be an excellent improvement over the existing strength training area.
Liz Rocks Climbing Wall
The Liz Rocks Climbing Wall area is framed. While it may be studs right now, soon this area will be enclosed and the rock wall will begin to take form.
Absher Construction and its sub-contractors are on schedule to complete the first phase of the Pearl Street Family YMCA this fall. Stay tuned for more updates over the coming months.
Absher Celebrates One Year of Construction and Zero Accidents
Absher Construction recently celebrated a year of construction progress and zero accidents on the site. To commemorate this milestone, the construction crew was treated to lunch and an inspiring message from Charlie Davis, President and CEO of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, about the significance of this new YMCA in the lives of the people and community it will serve. Congratulations and thank you to Absher Construction and all of its sub-contractors on a job well done!
Pave the Way to the Pearl Street Family YMCA
One way to directly support the construction of the new Pearl Street Family YMCA is to make a donation. For a limited time, donations of $250, $500, and $1,000 will receive an inscribed brick that will be installed in the entry plaza of the new Y. The inscribed bricks will be a permanent feature of the Pearl Street Y and a way to leave your legacy.
Additional donation and naming opportunities are available. Please contact Jared Johnson, Executive Director, 253-460-8812 or jajohnson@ymcapkc.org, for more information.
