The Wilson Family

Lakewood Family YMCA

Becoming foster parents wasn't on the agenda for Shannon and Frank, who already have four grown children. But after taking in some relatives, they felt the calling to serve their community in a greater way. Since becoming foster parents five years ago, they have fostered over 20 children and they brought them all to the Y for free.

"Even if the Y didn't offer free memberships to foster children, we would still bring the kids to the Y," said Shannon. "There is so much for us all to do here."

The Wilson family is at the Y almost every day of the week, splashing around in the pool for family swim, playing basketball, or working out on their own. Shannon and Frank even use the Y as their husband and wife bonding time while the kids are at school.

"I like that the Y is so family centered," said Shannon. "It's definitely more than a gym."
