Bremerton Family YMCA

The Bremerton YMCA is staffed with people who desire to help you build a healthy life: body, mind and spirit. The staff exemplify the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Who would not want to be part of the Y!? Due to my life’s circumstances, I found myself alone for the first time in 50 years and recognized, with my increasing age, I was losing strength. What better place to strengthen my entire self and be in a place that is safe, respectful, caring and fun. I would encourage anyone to become part of this wonderful community.

I joined the Y in June, 2015 and began attending the Deep Water Fitness class taught by Melissa. I love the water and thought the class would be a good choice for a gentle cardio workout. After a few weeks of awkwardness, being in a bathing suit in public and learning the specific workout movements while trying to stay afloat in the water, I learned to love the class. Deep Water Fitness is challenging and, as a result, a good workout. More importantly, I have developed lifelong friends.

In December of 2015, I decided to add weight lifting to my routine. I met with Brian, a Fit Path coach, to help assess my fitness level and set me on an ActivTrax schedule that would guide me while in the weight room. After nine months with the ActivTrax program, I decided to set a goal of bench-pressing my body weight. I asked the weight room coach, if he would assist me. He was extremely helpful over the following few months that gave me a good base and confidence that I could succeed. I am very close to hitting my goal and will be extremely happy when it happens.

The YMCA is a wonderful place to increase or obtain your goals AND meet new friends.
