Steve and Sandy D.
Mel Korum Family YMCA
Steve and Sandy’s story began 10 years ago on February 23, right here at the Mel Korum Family YMCA. While Steve was alternating between running the track and working out in the weight room, he bumped into Sandy and instantly started up a conversation. Moments passed and the two continued on with their separate workouts, but it wasn’t long until Steve and Sandy ran into each other again.
Steve later explained, “After that I finished my work out and was thinking of her the whole time. How beautiful she was and how pretty and amazing her eyes were as she looked at me.” Finally, after working up the courage, Steve walked over to Sandy and asked for her number.
Then on their way home their story continued because as Steve pulled up to the stop light on 176th and Meridian Sandy was right there next to him at the light. “Wow! Coincidence or fate?” he thought.
“I thought about her a lot after that, and wanted to call her, but there is an unwritten guy rule to not call for at least three days.”
Two days after their first meeting, Sandy called Steve to ask him out.
Fast forward 10 years later, Steve and Sandy are happily married with a blended family of 8 children. The two have given back to their community by starting a meeting group to help other overcome relationship challenges, as well as a concrete and landscaping company called Devine by Design.
Steve explains, “I wanted to make our 10 year anniversary a special day, so two weeks ago I proposed to Sandy on the track and asked her to marry me again.”
On February 23, 2017, their daughter, Aundremi, will be remarried Steve and Sandy in the Mel Korum Family YMCA chapel where their love story began!
