College professor Ryan Syler, a true Southerner, embraced everything about the Southern lifestyle, including the eating habits. In his youth, this never seemed to be a problem, but he began to notice it was catching up with him as an adult. He was not happy with the man looking back in the mirror, so in January of 2015, Ryan joined the Y in hopes of making a change.
Y staff welcomed him with open arms, and he quickly realized that true change would require him to open his arms to new ideas, experiences, and habits. The teacher would need to become a student again. Ryan signed up for an appointment with a Health and Well-being staff member to help him come up with a plan. He slowly worked his way into Activtrax with his FitPath coach and began to be a regular in the cardio and weight rooms. His persistence paid off, resulting in the doubling of his strength. He noted a significant improvement in his mood, as well.
