Roger

Tacoma Center YMCA

Raised by a single mother with several children, Roger often felt the pressure of responsibility beyond the average 17-year-old. Working a job through high school to help support his family, Roger was finding it difficult to balance his life and make school a priority.

When he started attending Teen Late Nite every Friday night with the support of caring adult role models, Roger’s life began to change. He loved getting to be with other teens his own age and learning how to navigate life’s challenges.

“I know when I come to Late Nite I will learn about things that will help me later in life,” said Roger. Since attending the program for the past six years, YMCA staff noticed a dramatic change in his behavior.

With the support of his family and the Y, Roger has made his future a priority, committing to a renewed focus on his education.
