YMCA Camp Seymour
Known for his huge smile and tremendous energy, Reggie also had learning challenges, requiring him to have individualized instruction. His teachers thought giving him the opportunity to experience YMCA Camp Seymour would help develop his social and leadership skills.
After receiving a scholarship, Reggie went to camp, where he nervously tried new things like dissecting a squid and paddling in a canoe. As he gained confidence, he tried the climbing wall and led his group in skits and challenge courses.
On the bus ride home, Reggie told his teacher, Ruth, that he made new friends at camp and wished he could live there forever.
“I believe that the four days Reggie spent at Camp Seymour were some of the most joyful and empowering moments in his young life,” said Ruth. “I know he will never forget the wonderful experience.”
