Lakewood Family YMCA
Cancer survivor Patricia needed a weight loss surgery, but told her clinician her struggle wasn't with food. She felt powerless and began looking for gyms to join but found them to be too expensive, until she joined the Y.
Patricia got started with a FitPath appointment and after her first month she lost nine pounds. Soon she was attending group exercise classes regularly. It wasn't long before Patricia was no longer hiding behind her hooded jacket and graduated from her three month FitPath program almost 18 pounds lighter.
"That is more than in the entire year prior," shared Patricia. "I have a place to go just for me where no one looks down on me, laughs at me, or criticizes me because of my weight. I have a place to go where I am cheered on for my baby steps and not constantly reminded how much more I have to lose."
At her next doctor's appointment, for the first time Patricia can remember, her clinician did not mention weight loss surgery. She says she would sum up her experience with the bible verse, Matthew 4:16 (KLV) "The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up."
