Lakewood Family YMCA
Megan started gymnastics at the Lakewood Family YMCA when she was three-years-old. She quickly began competing with the gymnastics team, where she learned how to be a good sport in triumph and in defeat. Everything was going well until she was 10-years-old, when she was diagnosed with Leukemia.
"Bald and taking weekly trips to the hospital for chemotherapy, the Y became a constant for me," said Megan. "It was a place where I could continue to come while I was sick and with my friends doing the sport I loved."
With the support of her coaches and teammates, Megan continued to participate in gymnastics and keep up her strength while undergoing treatment. By the age of 12, she was officially cancer free. Now, you can find her teaching children gymnastics at the Y.
"I love the Y. It has had a huge impact on who I am," said Megan. "It can build and change lives and that's something I want to be a part of."
