Marty first became a member at the Y in 2010. He quickly found success, losing 50 pounds, making incredible strides in his health, and gaining great friendships along the way that would prove to be invaluable in the journey ahead.
Earlier this year, Marty was seriously injured. A bad accident caused pieces of his L4 and L5 vertebrae to break off into his sciatic nerve. He only regained use of the right side of his body after the pieces were surgically removed.
He can be found at the Y almost every afternoon, trying to gain back strength and functional ability after his accident. He's already back to skateboarding and is doing the Halloween Hustle this October.
Marty has been an inspiration to both Y members and staff. When we asked him what he loves most about the Y he said "Talking to everyone, especially the seniors. I've talked to a lot of really great people here. Everyone is generally really nice at this Y, I can't help but stop and say hello."
