YMCA Child Care
I’m from Tacoma. I was born and raised here. I applied to the Y after I graduated high school. I got sent to an elementary school on the East Side of Tacoma. It’s one of those schools that just, you know, the kids are in conditions that aren’t the best conditions. I really related to those kids, ‘cause I knew how they felt. I got to just go and kinda relive my childhood with them – bring in some fun, bring in some excitement – and just show them that even though they’re surrounded by things that may be a little bit tough, there are still opportunities all around them.
I’m making sure that kids are actively engaged, helping them with their homework, building healthy relationships, and fun – making sure everyone has fun.
I’m in my senior year of college right now and I’ve been able to go to school every quarter without this job interfering with my school. I want to go into education. I want to be an elementary school teacher. [The kids] remind me of why I’m doing what I’m doing and why I’m going to school for what I’m going to school for.
