YMCA Child Care
For a child with a developmental disability, life in a school social setting can be challenging. Learning to relate to others and feeling part of a group was a priority for Malachi, grade 5, and his mother Nicole as they sought before and after school care. After attempts with other care providers, they found a home with the Y.
"I am appreciative of the Y program and the chance it's given Malachi to be part of something big with people who care for him and encourage him to be involved with open arms," says Nicole.
Y staff provide opportunities for Malachi to interact with a larger group, check in with his mother on a daily basis, and work towards helping him feel empowered to share his personality. Nicole has seen drastic positive changes in her son's social interactions in and out of school.
Almost a two year veteran of YMCA Child Care, Malachi will be moving on to middle school with renewed confidence and a strong sense of self.
