Lynn and Jim M.

Lynn and Jim Maxwell love going to the Lakewood Family YMCA. As longtime members, they enjoy having a place to exercise, but also value the connections they’ve formed over the years. Those connections led them to become deeply involved in the Y as volunteers. A few years ago, they were inspired to undertake the 500-mile journey along the Camino de Santigo in Spain and they’ve returned multiple times to lead groups of YMCA members on the famous pilgrimage route.

When the Y closed its doors to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, they were suddenly unable to gather with their group of friends, but they knew the Y was still actively engaged in crisis response efforts. So, when they had the opportunity to donate their monthly membership dues to support that work, they jumped at the chance to become cause-driven members.

“For us, the Y has always been about community: a community of friends, fellow health nuts and those who want to make our community a better place. And in today’s uncertain times, the Y is in the forefront of supporting our community, offering enhanced child care, free meals to kids, and online health and exercise programs to help us stay healthy while cooped up at home,” Jim says. “That’s why we didn’t hesitate to continue offering the Y our monthly dues so they can continue to do all they’re doing to support all our communities in these incredibly tough times.”
