Kelly B.

Tacoma Center YMCA

In 2010, Kelly Buchanan was clinically obese, suffered several health problems, and personal struggles.

"My doctor recommended gastric-bypass surgery. It was the wake up call I needed to change my life," she recalled. Opting out of surgery, Kelly decided to change her diet and start exercising. "I was able to lose over 120 pounds in three years by making gradual changes to my nutrition, increasing my daily activity level, and managing my stress differently."

In 2012, Kelly joined the Y and felt renewed energy, "I walked into my first fitness class and found amazing music, wonderful people, and the encouragement and support that I desperately needed." R.I.P.P.E.D.® become a passion for Kelly, as she obtained her instructor certification in April 2013 and became a volunteer instructor.

"At the Y, members supported and encouraged me. Now I feel enriched and blessed to be able to support others to reach their goals."
