Kelly B.

Lakewood Family YMCA

Weighing 278 pounds, Kelly's joints hurt every day and made her work as a Veterinary Technician challenging. With high cholesterol, high blood pressure, osteopenia, and spinal disease, her doctor recommended gastric bypass surgery.

Instead, she began taking walks on her lunch that soon turned into 5k runs and eventually, Patricia completed the Seattle Marathon. She had taken control of her life and made it to her goal weight of 160 pounds until she suffered several serious foot injuries that made her unable to continue running.

After her doctor recommended she find a new fitness plan, Patricia joined the Y and developed a passion for the group fitness class, R.I.P.P.E.D.. Through positive energy, fun music, and fellow students, she was going to class three times each week.

"I had taken my body to another level, lost two jean sizes, and put muscles where loose skin used to be," said Patricia. "I am continually inspired by the generous spirits and giving hearts of the YMCA employees and members."
