John ended the school year struggling with reading, so his mom enrolled him in the YMCA Summer Learning Loss Prevention program, which is designed to boost literacy skills of students through a summer camp environment.
Inspired by the enrichment activities he learned during the day, John started his own STEM and art activities at home. "The other day, John gathered supplies out of the kitchen and started his own science projects," said John's mother, Joan. "He is excited to come to the program and is self-motivated to learn."
Through the Y's balanced approach to learning, John stayed active, played games, and improved his literacy skills. "The summer program helps me learn great things that I bring home and share with my parents," said John.
