Military wife Jessica Lee discovered the Y in 2007 shortly after her husband Ken deployed to Iraq. She found herself isolated with her two-year-old daughter Joleesha, and she vividly recalls the sense of family she found within the walls of the Y.

"I used to push a stroller two miles each way at least four times a week just to be with people who cared about us," recalls Jessica.

In 2009, Ken was medically discharged from the military due to injuries sustained in Iraq after serving four years in the Marines and 11 years in the Army. Jessica left her job as unit secretary in the ER in order to care of Ken, and the family moved out of the area. But they didn't stay gone for too long; the Lees returned to Tacoma in May of 2013, and one of the first places they decided to visit was the Y.

Now they visit as a family. Ken finds therapeutic benefit from the pool, Jessica enjoys catching up with old friends, and Joleesha loves gymnastics. We salute the Lees for their service to our country, and we are proud to serve them in spirit, mind, and body as a part of our Y family.
