With three young children and busy lives of their own, Heidi and Craig Anderson make the most out of their opportunities at the Mel Korum Family YMCA. Between all of the programs they participate in, the Andersons spend nearly every day at the Y.
“The Y has opportunities for anything your children are interested in and so many opportunities for adults,” Heidi said.
“You have to prioritize it,” Craig added. “There’s a benefit, and sometimes it takes time to see; to sticking with it. There is so much to do for adults and kids.”
Their children Ryan, Claire, and Matthew are involved in lots of programs at the Y, including youth sports leagues, swimming, and dance. Craig enjoys playing basketball, running, and swimming. Heidi loves running three days a week, swimming, and going to Stroller Fit. Through the many programs they love, they’ve found that the benefit goes further than skills and fitness.
“The Y is obviously a place where you can workout, but through that you find community,” Heidi shared.
With Ryan and Claire playing in various seasons of youth sports leagues and Craig sharing his 26 years of coaching experience as a volunteer basketball coach, they have become immersed into the Mel Korum youth sports community. Heidi developed a friendship with another Y mom that began while running the track together with their double strollers.
They have found that their community expands and intertwines as they see familiar faces in and out of the Y.
