Hayden was born with microcephaly (a small head) and a rare chromosome abnormality, never seen before in the world, according to UW Genetics. Hayden turned 13 years old this February, yet mentally and physically is about six years old.

Hayden was eight years old when he started playing sports at the Y. He gravitated to indoor soccer, basketball, and baseball.  Hayden?s family says that he has always had amazing coaches and great teammates who have encouraged him to do his best, regardless of the challenges he faced.

"Even though Hayden is socially delayed, we have always thought social interaction is so good for his future development," said Hayden's mom. "Being a part of a team and working hard are good life skills for him to learn and the Y has helped a great deal with that!"

Hayden has also participated in the summer day camp and loves all the variety of activities, especially anything involving a ball and water! Hayden and his family say that counselors are so awesome about remembering him and how he functions throughout the day.

"We are very grateful and blessed to have the Y sports and camp programs to help make Hayden feel like he belongs to something special! A special thank you to Y staff for your consistent care and unconditional acceptance of our son. To us, Hayden is such a blessing and a true one of a kind."
