University Y Student Center
For Frank, fitness is a way of life. This way of life was instilled in him starting at a very young age, when he first got connected to the Y.
“I grew up in the North End of Tacoma and was a member of the YMCA Indian Guides as Little Bear in my youth," Frank says.
Over the last three years, Frank and his family have been members of the University Y Student Center. Frank enjoys using the bikes and the rowing machines, but most of all, he loves the feeling of community and the "family of health fanatics" he's discovered as a member of the Y.
"I come the UWY five days a week to breathe the healthy air," Frank says. "I like feeling better and thinking I will live longer by staying healthy. My wife works out at the UWY at least five days a week and my daughter works at the UWY. Exercise is a part of our lives.”
Nowhere is that sense of community stronger for Frank than twice a week in morning Boot Camp class.
“[My] favorite thing is to sweat with my friends at Clare’s morning Boot Camp on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have a regular crew that pushes and encourages one another.”
When he's not at the Y, Frank works up the hill at Willie Stewart Academy. He appreciates being able to bring his students down to the Y as part of their regular PE class and helping to teach them to have a lifelong love to healthy living.
“I try to teach students the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and exercise. So the impact of the UWY is on my mental and physical health and the health of my students.”
