Morgan Family YMCA

When I first applied, I was like, “Cool! I get to hang out with kids all day long. What’s cooler than that?” And it’s so much more than that. I help them build relationships with other kids as well as with counselors and make them feel that they’re loved, because some of these kids don’t have that person in their life. So, it’s really important that they feel welcomed here at camp. To help them be successful, whether that’s in school or just outside, I hope they carry those skills on with them so that they can make new friends in other places. It’s a lot more than just hanging out with kids all day.

It’s a roller coaster. I mean, you have your ups and downs for sure, but at the end of the day, I always think that the good outweighs the bad. Really, it is fun, and you get to watch those kids grow. Maybe something clicked for them, and that’s what’s really cool about this job.
