Audrey and Fran
Morgan Family YMCA
Three days a week, you can find Audrey and Fran diligently working out together at the Morgan Family YMCA. After meeting in their church bible study, Fran offered to start driving Audrey to her physical therapy appointments. Audrey’s doctor advised that she exercise more often, so they both started going to the Y.
“When I first started coming I was running into people I had known forty, fifty years ago,” Fran recalled. “I was surprised to run into so many people and meet so many new people. I really enjoy the community of it.”
Audrey and Fran appreciate the Christian basis of the Y’s cause, as well as the comradery and kindness they have found from the people they see at the Y each day. From staff to volunteers, they can always count on a friendly face to help them on their journeys.
“I’m really impressed with the caring spirit,” said Audrey.
Together, they keep each other accountable and committed to working on their health at the Y. When they come to work out, they hop on the treadmills together, do a circuit on strength machines, and walk the track. They inspire each other as workout buddies to work harder and improve.
“[Audrey]’s dynamite, she’s had a couple of injuries to come back from,” Fran shared. “It’s really encouraging to me. She’s my hero.”
They have impressed not only themselves but their doctors as well with the improvements to their health. Not only do they feel better, but they’ve both seen a decrease in blood pressure and lower blood sugar levels.
Audrey and Fran look forward to trying new things as they continue their journey at the Y.
“Give it a try! What have you got to lose?” Fran said. “You have everything to gain. See what happens; you’re bound to feel better.”
