Our Inclement Weather Policy

The safety of our staff, members, and volunteers is a top priority at the Y. While we make every effort to keep the Y open and programs running to serve our community, we may cancel programs, delay opening, or close the facility because of severe weather, unsafe driving conditions, or power outages. Operating decisions are based on weather alerts, school delays and closures, road conditions, and the ability of Y staff to operate the facility safely.

Delays and Closures Due to Weather

If there is a two-hour delay or closure announced by the school district, all programs and classes normally scheduled before 2pm will be cancelled. By 12pm, we will evaluate road and weather conditions to determine if programs after 2pm will be cancelled. Facility closures will be determined on a case-by-case basis and announced with as much advance notice as possible. Opening times may be delayed if staff are unable to travel to the Y safely.

If inclement weather is expected on Saturday or Sunday, a decision on facility hours and program or class cancellations will be made the night before, or as needed as conditions change.

YMCA Before and After School programs run in conjunction with the school district. If a school is closed for inclement weather, the YMCA Before and After School program will be closed. If a school district runs two hours late, then YMCA programs will also run two hours late.

Power Outages

It is the YMCA's policy to suspend facility activities if power is out for a period of 15 minutes or more without sign of restoration. Our generator runs emergency lighting, our pool filtration system, and basic power functions. Cardio equipment is not connected. Staff will remain onsite up until one hour has passed since the initial outage. They will reopen the facility if power returns within one hour.

Lightning

For everyone's safety, if lightning is seen near the facility, all pools, showers, steam rooms, and saunas will close until 30 minutes after the last reported strike. Outdoor activities may be relocated, delayed, or cancelled due to nearby lightning strikes.

You can track our current status both on this webpage and on our Facebook page. This page will be updated whenever new information becomes available, through our scheduled closing time each day.
