The YMCA has a rich history. Our founding father, George Williams had a vision of reaching those hampered by the hazards of life. Continuing the legacy that the YMCA has established for more than 170 years, our programs and services have expanded to fully supply that vision. In January of 1983 the vision for Tacoma Center YMCA was realized. Williams' dream continued on to open the only adult-facility YMCA in Pierce and Kitsap County. Our rich history of service to a community is alive and well, just as it was back then.
Although we serve an adult population, our services are not limited to just adult programming. We have expanded over the years into the weekend to allow for family opportunities in Aquatics and Health and Wellness. However, the Y goes beyond big buildings and great classes. It is vital that we continue reaching out to communities that are less fortunate and offer life-changing support for those often forgotten. This is possible through programs like Teen Late Nite made available every weekend to keep kids off the streets and give them a safe place to be with a caring adult.
Tacoma Center YMCA is very grateful for the strong support of our membership base which includes those who have given and supported our branch for many years along with the influx of a new generation of young adults. This is how the Y has been able to be successful for so many years. The Y is willing to adjust to the need of a community without sacrificing our core beliefs around Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
I would like to invite you to become a part of the Tacoma Center experience. We would like to hear from you about our community and programmatic needs it presents. Please join our team of incredible volunteers, members and staff committed to continuing that vision.

The Y is a cause-driven organization focused on three key areas: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We believe a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors.
Our programs, services, and initiatives enable youth to realize their potential, offer families ways to have fun together, empower people to be healthier in spirit, mind and body, welcome and embrace newcomers and help foster social responsibility.
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen.
The values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for life. At the Y, children and teens learn values and positive behaviors, and can explore their unique talents and interests, helping them realize their potential.
FOR HEALTHY LIVING
Improving our community’s health and well-being.
Being healthy is about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind, and body. At the Y you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself with new activities, fostering connections with neighbors, or joining family-centered activities.
FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Giving back and providing support to our neighbors.
The generosity of others is at the core of the Y’s existence as a nonprofit. It is only through the support of hundreds of volunteers and public and private donors that we are able to support and give back to our communities.
