Meet Our Instructor

Lauren KiddLauren Kidd, Arts Program Coordinator

Lauren Kidd received her B.F.A degree in Dance / Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She has had the privilege of performing in Arezzo, Italy, opened for John Legend, and has commercial & theme park performance experience. Teaching has always been her passion both in the dance and the fitness field.

Meet Our Instructors

Edna CabalfinEdna Cabalfin, Youth and Arts Program Director

Miss Edna began dancing at the age of 7 with the Filipino/American Association where she learned Tinikling, a traditional Philippine dance, the Tahitian, and Hula. Through her youth, she took ballet lessons at Irene’s School of Dance and has 5.5 years’ experience with various dance teams. Edna’s four years of dance coaching with the Bremerton High School dance team, twelve years teaching, and six years of choreography experience helped her establish the dance program at the Haselwood Y. She hopes to grow strong performing, visual, and culinary arts programs here at the Y for both youth and adults.

Katie Henderson, Dance InstructorKatie Henderson

Miss Katie has been a Y dance instructor since early 2014. She has nine years of studio experience, five years dance team experience, and has interned with the Manette Business Association. Katie’s expertise has helped us debut and develop many of the introductory and progressive dance classes currently available at the Haselwood Y.

Ella HazzardElla Hazzard, Dance Instructor

Miss Ella shares her passion for dance in our Haselwood Y Progressive Dance Classes, Teen Late Nite programs, as well as the Y Summer Camps. She has been dancing at Irene’s School of Dance for 15 years and was a member of Dance Arts Theatre for 9 years. She has studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, and pointe.

Sidnie FloodSidnie Flood, Dance Specialist

Sidnie began her dance training with Inwood Performing Arts in Inwood, West Virginia. She studied ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and Irish Step. At the age of 12, she joined the pre-professional Inwood Dance Company. After high school, Sidnie attended Point Park University where she received a B.A. in Dance with a concentration in Jazz and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Sports, Arts, and Entertainment Management. Sidnie has performed works by Eddie Ocampo, George Balanchine, Laurie Stallings, and more. She attended programs with Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, The Joffrey Ballet, The Regional Dance America Craft of Choreography, and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. She has also restaged numerous works on the Inwood Dance Company. Sidnie taught at Haselwood YMCA in 2015, the inaugural year of our progressive program, and she is excited to be back as a Dance Specialist.

Lily BairLily Blair, Dance Specialist

Miss Lily started dancing at age 8 in Poulsbo. She studied ballet, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical, and musical theatre. She became an apprentice for Dance Ensemble Northwest when she was 14 years old and became a member when she was 15 years old. After high school graduation, she moved to Los Angeles where she continued to study dance. She studied ballet and hip hop at The Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. She also worked with inner-city teenagers and children who taught her hip hop, salsa and break dancing. She toured as a backup dancer for a Latin pop singer in Lima, Peru. After spending one year in Los Angeles, Lily moved back to Kitsap County. Here, she combined her knowledge of hip hop and her love for teaching dance to begin teaching at several dance studios in Kitsap County until 2012.

Travis VanceTravis Vance, Visual Arts Specialist

Mr. Travis is a graduate of The Art Institute of CA: Inland Empire. Travis has worked on several movies in the film industry. He is an experienced animator and designer who loves to share the knowledge he has gained with the next generation. He loves to inspire his students to bring out their inner artist and strives to ignite passion in others through the passion in himself.

Kristin WoodlandKristin Woodland, Culinary Arts Instructor

Kristin Woodland experienced the joy of cooking as a small child while preparing family meals with her mother. She has always dreamed of working with kids. To accomplish this goal, she attended Olympic College in Bremerton and then transferred with her Associate of Arts to Brigham Young University-Idaho where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Child Development. Kristin helped create the Y Bakers program as a way to contribute more hands-on learning for children.

Rebekah SnedegarRebekah Snedegar, Dance Instructor

Mrs. Rebekah has been dancing since the age of 3. She started with Ballet but has training in all styles including Lyrical, Modern, Hip Hop, and Tap. She found her true passion in Jazz. After graduating high school she moved to Utah and Idaho where she continued taking college classes in dance. Rebekah has experience teaching dance and cheer at the Boys and Girls Club, her church with underprivileged youth, and in studios. She has received a degree in Child Development. Rebekah has experience teaching children with diverse abilities including those who were blind, deaf, and who have Autism, as well as teaching adult jazz classes. Rebekah brings a great deal of love for children and excitement to the Y's dance program as she is passionate about children and helping them find their own freedom of expression through dancing.

Kainani BonsellKainani Bonsell, Dance Instructor

Miss Kainani was born and raised on the island of Maui where she started dancing Hula at the age of 5 with her Kumu Hula (teacher).  She found her love for dance, ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and modern—but her true love was Hula. This traditional Hawaiian dance was created to perpetuate Hawaiian culture by telling stories through body movement. Kainani continued to study Hula, traveling through the Hawaiian Islands, Europe, and Japan. In 2002, she began dancing professionally for Old Lahaina Lu’au and worked her way up to Assistant Director. Kainani moved to Washington with her husband and three kids in 2009. Six years ago, she brought the art of Hula to the Haselwood YMCA and has been teaching keiki (children) and adult classes.

Jayden JohnsonJayden Johnson, Dance Instructor

Miss Jayden has danced for over 13 years with the Bremerton Dance Center. Jayden has received formal dance instruction in the genres of Ballet, Pointe, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip Hop. She has had the opportunity to be a part of various productions such as Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid. Jayden has a strong passion for dance and hopes to share that love for dance with each of her students.

Emmalia MonroeEmmalia Monroe

Miss Emmalia has studied dance with Galletta Dance and In Motion Performing Arts. She also has experience dancing with the Kitsap Children’s Musical Theatre. Emmalia has had the opportunity to have her choreography displayed in KCMT’s performances of Charlotte’s Web, Peter Pan, and in their 2018 Performing Arts Summer Camps. We look forward to seeing the combination of her dance and theatre experience in our classrooms.

Dara HalvorsonDara Halvorson

Miss Dara has more than 10 years of experience working with youth ages 6 weeks to 18 years old. 5 years of this experience has been teaching dance. As a dancer, she has performed in the West End of London and has participated in several competitions throughout Cambridge, UK. Dara’s specializes in Hip Hop Dance but continues to expand her dance education in other genres. Dara also has 3 years of stage design. Her design experience has been displayed in our Gig Harbor YMCA dance recitals. She is a graduate from the University of Washington and has a BA in psychology with a heavy emphasis on youth development. Dara found much joy dancing while growing up and hopes to provide this joy with her dance students.

Meet Our Instructors

Tori Sandate WebsiteTori Sandate, Arts Director

Tori has been a choreographer and dance instructor for ten years and has been with Y since 2015. While obtaining her History degree from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, she choreographed for competitive dance teams from private studios, high schools, and universities. Her choreography has won many awards in dance competitions in numerous states and has had many students recognized for their achievements in dance. Tori has been teaching for the Y for four years and was recently promoted to Arts Director. She strives to offer high-quality art programs to our community members as well as providing our youth with a safe place to express themselves through many forms of art.

Kaylee Onorati, Arts Program CoordinatorKaylee Onorati

Kaylee graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in Theatre Education and Communication in 2015. Since then she has become a well-recognized teaching artist through Missoula Children’s Theatre touring nationally while performing, teaching, and directing theatre. After coming off tour she started directing, teaching, and performing for theatres in Seattle, Kirkland, and Tacoma. Kaylee's other passions include writing, cooking, guitar, and hiking. Not only does she love the arts, but she also loves her cat Goose and dogs Chipmunk and Kangaroo. Kaylee is very excited to be working at the Y to grow and cultivate arts in Puyallup to instill confidence in young artists.

Michelle Wells MorganMichelle Wells, Senior Arts Director

Michelle fell in love with the Y when she was in her early twenties. Motivated by her own artistic experience and education, she quickly developed a deep passion for serving others. This resolve has stuck with her throughout her career. Over 15 years later, Michelle now provides strategic leadership, staff development and inspired vision to the Morgan Family YMCA as their Senior Arts Director. She is happiest when creating artistic outlets for her community to thrive in.

Courtney Volta, Arts DirectorCourtney Volta Morgan

Courtney has played an integral role at the Morgan YMCA for the last five years. She strives to teach all of her students to enjoy the journey of creative exploration and is committed to helping them feel like they belong. Her ability to build strong relationships with members and coworkers alike is admirable. Courtney serves as the Arts Director at the Morgan Family YMCA and is thrilled to be able to share her talents and skills with our branch.

Meet Our Instructors

I started dancing at the age of 3 and dance instantly became a part of who I am. As part of a military family, I was exposed to many styles of dance from around the world along with many different kinds of teachers and teaching styles. I have more than 20 years of dance experience, including a BFA degree in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts with an emphasis on pedagogy, as well as experience as a professional modern and ballet dancer, choreographer, and teacher. I have been teaching dance for eight years and have been with the YMCA for about two years.

Lindsey Jackson UYLindsey T. H. Jackson, Arts Director

Introducing the new University Y Arts Director, Lindsey T. H. Jackson. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Lindsey has trained and performed across the United States, Europe, and Australia. Winner of the Green Street Studios, Emerging Artist Award, Lindsey began writing and producing her own work in 2002, soon followed by the creation of her own dance and theater company, Red Umbrella, in 2004.

Currently, Lindsey is working on the development of her one-woman show, '#enlightenedAF,' and her first book by the same name. You can now train with her weekly at the University Y in mediums such as, but not limited to, dance, improv, and storytelling, and collaborator with her to bring more great arts programs to the University Y community.
