SwimmingThe Y strengthens our communities by providing instruction in swimming and water safety, as well as water exercise options. Aquatics programs include swim lessons, water exercise classes, lap swim time, recreational swim times, water safety lessons, lifeguard and CPR certification courses, and classes to help adults overcome fear of the water.

Swim Lessons

The YMCA offers swim lessons for both youth and adults. Our swim lessons are progression based, so please be sure to consult the  swim  lesson progression guides prior to registering for a swim lesson. Swim lessons are included in the cost of membership.

  • Early Youth Swim Lessons (Ages 0-2)
  • Preschool Swim Lessons (Ages 3-5)
  • Youth Swim Lessons (Ages 6-11)
  • Teen Swim Lessons (Ages 12-14)

Water Exercise

The Y offers water fitness classes that focus on increasing muscle strength, cadiovascular endurance, and flexibility. These drop-in classes are low impact, but vary in intensity. Classes offered include Shallow Water Aerobics, Deep Water Aerobics, Aqua Dance, Aqua Zumba, Aqua Boot Camp, Aqua Yoga, Modified Water Aerobics, Healthy Joints, Water Walking, River Fitness, and Master Swim Team.

Class offerings may vary by location and season. Most classes are drop-in, but some may require registration. Water exercise classes are offered at the following locations:

Swim Teams

Swim Meet

Engage in competitive swimming as a participant of one of our swim teams! Participants learn from talented coaches and develop sportsmanship, self-esteem, self-discipline, self-improvement, and social interaction. Participants must be at least at a Stage 5 swimming level.

Program offerings vary by season and location. Find a swim team program at your local YMCA facility:

Masters Swim Teams for ages 15 and older are available at some locations. Please contact your local facility to learn more.

Safety Around Water

Help keep children safe with the YMCA's Safety Around Water program, where participants learn essential water safety skills. The program is free to participants and open to anyone in the community; a YMCA membership is not necessary to participate.

Safety Around Water offered at: 

Lifeguard Certification

Learn to Lifeguard in a variety of settings including pool, lake, river, surf, and water park. Earn YMCA Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Oxygen Administration certifications.

Lifeguard Certification offered at: 

Floating Beyond Fear (Life University)

This innovative class for adults combines group discussions and pool time designed to address fear of the water. We’ll discuss how your body naturally interacts with water, tools for remaining calm, and floating skills. You’ll be in a supportive environment with others who share and understand your fear.
