YMCA Community Learning Centers
What are YMCA Community Learning Centers?
Tacoma Public Schools and the YMCA partner to create Community Learning Centers (CLCs)
in select schools throughout the district. CLCs serve as a hub for all community organizations
working in the school building. This allows organizations to align efforts and services in an intentional and effective way. Each CLC site has a full-time YMCA staff person on-site to coordinate efforts.
The CLC model provides holistic programming before, during, and after school to address students’ academic, physical, social, and emotional development. Students are exposed to diverse topics to discover and develop their skills and interests.
CLC Programming areas include:
- Academic Support
- Health and Wellness
- Leadership Development
- 21st Century Skills
- Arts Education
- Service Learning
- College and Career Preparation
- Global Learning
- Family Engagement
The Y is doing more than just providing after school programs. We're bringing together a range of support and opportunities that help youth realize who they are and all they can achieve.
The Y is proud to have CLC sites at the following Tacoma locations:
Baker Middle School Bulldog Center
First Creek Middle School Eagle Center
Giaudrone Middle School Husky Center
Roosevelt Elementary School Ram Center
Stewart Middle School Panther Center
Truman Middle School Titan Center
"The YMCA understands the value of true collaboration. Together we are aligning resources to remove access barriers for families and support for our city's children. The YMCA's programming in Tacoma is a true inspiration for students and our staff."
