Youth Sports Leagues

TACOMA PUBLIC SCHOOLS ELEMENTARY SPORTS PROGRAM

The Elementary School Sports Program is made possible through a unique partnership between Tacoma Public Schools, Metro Parks Tacoma, Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound, and the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties. We began offering school-based recreational sports leagues to Tacoma's elementary school students in 2016.

Our leagues focus on the value of participation over winning, team-building as well as individual development, a positive self-image, and a sense of fair play and mutual respect for others. Parents are encouraged to be more than a spectator, by contributing their time as volunteer coaches.

BECOME A VOLUNTEER COACH

Youth sports leagues at the Y are values-driven programs centered around developing caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility; we need volunteer coaches committed to instilling these values in each young athlete.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Coaching: Lead practices/games
  • Assistant Coaching: Help during practices and games. Lead activities if coach is unavailable.
  • Team Parents: Communicate league information, help with picture day, schedule snack rotation, help plan year-end team celebration, make phone calls as needed.
