Matthew Edde Circle Matthew Edde
 Head Coach

Matthew Edde has been a head coach for over 8 years. He’s       coached all ages, from 5-92 years old, and all skill levels, from   learn to swim to the college, national, and even world levels.   Matthew has been in the YMCA sector since December 2014   when he took on the coaching position for the Auburn Aqua   Seals. He’s now head coach for the Lakewood Sharks. He   uses a combination technique in his coaching using a variety of   drills and challenge sets. Matthew strives to have each of his   swimmers to achieve goals they don’t believe they’re capable of accomplishing.

LFY sarah mcghinnis swim team 02_21_17Sarah McGhinnis
Aquatics Director

Sarah has been married to her husband, Brandon, for 14 years and has two daughters, Alli (10) and Sophie (8). Alli is on the Grace Gymnastics Team at the Lakewood Y and Sophie is on the pre-swim team. Sarah graduated from WSU with a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Health and Wellness. She started teaching fitness classes in 1997 - yes, with cassette tapes - for WSU's PE classes. After graduating she worked as the Northwest Director for Operation Christmas Child, the largest project of Samaritan's Purse, an international relief organization. She had the opportunity to recruit, train and supervise over 200 volunteers throughout the Northwest, help promote the project, and support the logistics of collecting millions of shoebox gifts that were delivered to countries around the world.  In 2005, she had the opportunity to serve as the "house mom" for a women's transition home that she and her husband ran for about a year.  They had Alli in 2006 and soon after began teaching fitness classes again, which eventually led her to the Lakewood YMCA. She grew up swimming with her dad and brother on Saturday nights at the Morgan YMCA, swam on the University Place Aquatics swim team, taught swimming lessons for the Boys and Girls club, and coached their swim team for a summer. Aquatics holds a special place in her heart.
