During this two-week summer camp, participants learn the skills necessary to be an effective summer camp counselor. Councelors in Training may be offered volunteer positions for the remaining weeks of summer.
Our Counselors in Training (CITs) go through a two-week training period before they can become a volunteer for day camp. CITs will focus on what it means to be a leader at camp, at the YMCA and in the community.
Our CITs go through similar training the camp staff receives, including being trained in child abuse prevention, CPR/first aid, how to lead games, songs and behavior management training.
The first week of training is class-based. In the second week, CIT's will start working with a day camp counselor as their assistant.
Once they complete two weeks of training they will be able to volunteer at any other weeks of camp and act as a counselor's assistant.
