Teen Leadership

Counselor in Training Registration Required

During this two-week summer camp, participants learn the skills necessary to be an effective summer camp counselor. Councelors in Training may be offered volunteer positions for the remaining weeks of summer.

Details:

Our Counselors in Training (CITs) go through a two-week training period before they can become a volunteer for day camp. CITs will focus on what it means to be a leader at camp, at the YMCA and in the community. Our CITs go through similar training the camp staff receives, including being trained in child abuse prevention, CPR/first aid, how to lead games, songs and behavior management training. The first week of training is class-based. In the second week, CIT's will start working with a day camp counselor as their assistant. Once they complete two weeks of training they will be able to volunteer at any other weeks of camp and act as a counselor's assistant.
