ADAPTIVE RECREATION PROGRAM
The Y is here to serve families and children of all abilities and levels. Participants in each of these programs will be served by our instructor Lindsay Helm, who holds her Bachelor’s Degree in recreation management specializing in adaptive programming.
In the Adaptive Sports and Games class, otherwise known as “the sensory class,” Lindsay implements activities that challenge and expand the children’s current abilities. Class activities range from simple sensory play (i.e. sensory bins) to more challenging games involving team work, gross and fine motor skills, imagination and concentration.
Monday | 4-4:40pm | Ages 6-9
Thursday | 4-4:30pm | Ages 3-5
Wheelchair Sports offers children in wheelchairs a chance to play, grow and learn at their specific level. Each child’s needs heavily influence the structure of every class. Most class time is spent adapting everyday games (basketball, baseball, etc.) to fit the needs of the children. Quite often, however, the kids are eager to get out of their chairs and do other fun activities like being spun on the giant rainbow parachute, or being pulled around on the four-wheeled scooter.
Friday | 4:10-4:50pm | Ages 4-9
