Camps

At day camp, children make friendships, gain self-confidence, and are encouraged to model the Y values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. From swimming to sports, small group games to large group activities, kids learn and play through activities that teach teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development. Financial assistance is available online or at Gordon's Welcome Center.

Counselors in Training | Ages 14-17

Our Counselors in Training (CITs) go through a two-week training period before they can become a volunteer for day camp. CITs will focus on what it means to be a leader at camp, at the YMCA and in the community.

Our CITs go through similar training the camp staff receives, including being trained in child abuse prevention, how to lead games, songs and behavior management training.

The first week of training is class-based. In the second week, CITs will work alongside a day camp counselor.

Once they complete two weeks of training, they will be able to volunteer for the next two weeks of camp as an additional volunteer camp counselor.

Ages: 14-17

Dates: Training/Fieldwork - July 8-August 2

Price: $148 for YMCA Members/$178 for Community Members

Important Information

After the Thursday before camp begins, parents must register their child in person and fill out the registration form when they sign up in order to enroll in camp.

Camp FAQ's

Registration Form:

Once you have registered for camp either online or in person you need to complete a hard copy registration form. Forms reset during the spring meaning if you attended any camp in 2018 you need to fill out a NEW form. Thankfully, the form you fill out will be valid throughout the entirety of 2019. Completed forms can be emailed to the branch director, registrar, or be turned in in-person at the branch Welcome Center.

PLEASE NOTE: Our activity camps only happen in the afternoon, meaning that all “morning only” camp reservations will not include specialized activities, but rather more general team-building games and icebreakers.

Payments:

Payments for camp will be drafted on Friday, two weeks before camp. Parents can make weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payments between January 1, 2019 and June 1, 2019. Payment must be completed by June 1, 2019.

Bathroom Usage:

No one goes to the bathroom by themselves at any time. We will always have groups of campers traveling to the bathroom with a counselor supervising to and from the bathroom.

Park:

No group will be traveling to the park by themselves. We always partner groups up together.  We travel to the park using a rope to hold onto in line and all campers are identifiable as they are wearing pennies.

Water Usage:

Campers are recommended to bring their own water bottles to camp. If campers need to fill up their water bottles, we always have our groups go and fill them up together.

Sunscreen:

Counselors are allowed to apply sunscreen to a camper, but we recommend parents apply sunscreen to their child in the morning and send it with campers to camp.

Identifying Campers:

Campers will be identified by the wristbands they receive on Monday and Tuesday. These wristbands are color-coded by camp, and has their name and their group number on them. This helps our campers and counselors identify their groups and decreases the chances of campers being misplaced by age group and specialty camps. Our camp counselors are also wearing safety vests to and from the park to help campers identify their leaders.

Food:

To be mindful of food allergies, we do not allow peanut-based food at camp.

Gordon Family YMCA Location – We do provide free lunches from Camp Seymour as well as daily snacks.

Mountain View Middle School Location – Campers need to pack their own lunch but daily snacks are provided here as well.

Ratios:

Our staff to camper ratio’s for camp are as follows:

Itty Bitty- 1:7

Camp 56- 1:8

Day Camp- 1:10

Tween- 1:12

First Aid:

Counselors are equipped with first aid packs to handle injuries that occur during camp. We also take a fully stocked first aid backpack to the park every day.
