At the Y, we understand the arts not only strengthen and enrich communities, but also teach artists of all ages creativity, self-confidence, empathy, and the open-mindedness that makes our world a better place.

Ballet Registration Required


Beginning students learn preparatory exercises, focusing on creativity and exploration of movement. More advanced students engage in placement, technique, and musicality through barre, center, and enchainment (combination) exercises.

Preschool Ballet

Preschoolers discover their creativity through fun exercises and group interaction. Students will have an in-class performance at the end of the session.

Ballroom Dance Registration Required



Stay active and have fun learning the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, Cha Cha and more. No partner required.

Combination Dance Classes Registration Required



Beginning students learn the basic techniques of ballet along with the skills and styles of other dance genres including Jazz, Tap, and Lyrical.

Dance Company Registration Required



By invitation only, dance company members are selected from YMCA dance programs and participate in two performance seasons a year.

Dance Recitals Registration Required



Annual dance recitals are offered to all dance program participants. Formal and informal performances are held at the Y and local theaters. Each dancer is highlighted and given the chance to shine.

2019 INFORMAL DANCE RECITAL INFORMATION

Registration for the 2019 Informal Dance recital closed on February 9, 2019. Below you will find information about rehearsals and performances.

Dress Rehearsals: Saturday, May 18

Performances: Sunday, May 19

Location: Lakeridge Middle School

Recital Fee: $18

Flowers: Flowers will be available for purchase at the performance.

DVDs: Preorders of recital performance DVDs will be available beginning Monday, May 6 at the Y, as well as on site at the recital, and for one week after recital in branch. DVDs are $20.

Tickets: $5 per guest
*Children sitting on lap age 3 and younger are free.
Any additional tickets still available are now available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis beginning. All audience members must have a ticket.

Additional information:

  • To be with you child backstage, you must be a registered recital volunteer. To learn more contact Kristin Stoehr.
  • Because each class will be working on a different dance piece for the recital, once a dancer has registered for the recital, that dancer is locked into the same day, time, and level for all sessions leading up to recital. If you have questions regarding the appropriate placement for your child, please speak with your child's dance instructor.

Hip Hop Registration Required

Homeschool Dance Registration Required



Focus on exploration of music and movement in this dance introduction. Students discover their creativity through fun exercises and group interaction while learning the basics of different styles of dance.

Channel your inner Broadway dancer in this challenging and engaging class that emphasizes syncopation, expression, body alignment, and strength.

Lyrical Registration Required



Beginning students learn the kicks and leaps of jazz and fluidity of lyrical dance in this class that incorporates both techniques. With instructor permission, more advanced students engage in placement, technique, and musicality through center and combination floor exercises.

Parent/Child Creative Movement Registration Required



Basic ballet movements and music concepts are introduced through the teaching of imagination, self-expression and group interaction. Parental participation is required in this class.

Pre-Company Registration Required



Pre-Company is comprised of emerging dancers’ ages 7 years and up by instructor invitation only. Dancers participate in 2-4 performances yearly.

Tap Registration Required



Beginning students will learn the technique, terminology, and rhythm of tap dancing.  With instructor permission, more advanced students engage in multifaceted rhythm, musicality, and steps. Tap shoes required.
