YMCA equips Lakewood, Puyallup area kids with lifesaving water safety skills
LAKEWOOD, Wash. - This summer, the Y will offer Safety Around Water, a free program designed to provide more of America’s youth access to swim and water safety lessons, as well as educate parents about the importance of water safety skills. Families do not have to be members or join to participate.
Fatal drowning is a concern for all children – it’s the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages one to 14 years old.
This free program will be open to community for the following dates/locations:
- July 25, 26, 27, and 28 from 4-6pm at Lakewood Family YMCA (Lakewood, WA)
- July 25-28 from 5-7pm at Gordon Family YMCA (Puyallup, WA)
During the eight-day course, children will learn how to respond if they find themselves in unexpected water situations – from how to reach the water’s surface if they submerge, to safely reaching a pool’s edge or exiting any body of water. Parents and caregivers will help their children learn fundamental water safety and swimming skills.
